About Vakin
Vakin provides water, wastewater, waste management, and recycling services to approximately 140,000 people across Umeå, Vindeln, and Nordmaling.
The Challenge: Limited Visibility Across Business-Critical Integrations

Vakin relies on a complex network of integrations to coordinate waste collection services across multiple contractors and route-planning platforms. As the number and importance of integrations increased, Vakin needed better visibility into whether information had been sent, received, processed, or required follow-up. Without a consolidated view, troubleshooting and deviation handling could become time-consuming and dependent on manual investigation.
Key Challenges
- Potential Service Deviations
Delayed or incomplete data could make it more difficult to quickly identify and follow up on potential deviations in collection-related information. - Improved Basis for Contractor Follow-Up
Incomplete or delayed data exchanges could create discrepancies in the basis for service follow-up and invoicing. Vakin needed a more structured and fact-based way to identify, understand, and resolve these deviations together with relevant parties. - Slow, Manual Troubleshooting
Identifying and understanding deviations in integration flows often required manual investigation, which could increase resolution times. - Complex Integration Landscape
The business works with multiple waste haulers, each operating different route-planning systems and technologies, making integration monitoring and troubleshooting complex.
Boliden uses two core pillars of Nodinite:
- Monitoring
- Logging

The Solution: Nodinite for Quality Control
Nodinite was introduced to the organization through Swedish IT and management consultancy, eCrucial, to improve traceability, and integration visibility.
How Nodinite Is Used
Vakin primarily uses Nodinite as a quality control and integration monitoring and logging platform. Providing clear visibility into data flows between contractors, route-planning systems, and internal services.
Improved Service and Invoice Follow-Up
Integration logs now provide Vakin with a stronger basis for following up on service-related data and invoicing information.
For example, when there are differences between reported services, transferred work orders, and processed information in Vakin’s systems, Nodinite makes it easier to identify where the deviation occurred and what needs to be investigated.
This level of transparency supports a more fact-based dialogue between Vakin and relevant parties. It also strengthens confidence in operational reporting, service follow-up, and invoicing accuracy.
This level of transparency has improved the shared understanding of service data and strengthened the basis for follow-up with contractors.
Empowered Customer Service Teams
Nodinite has also enabled customer service teams to independently investigate common operational deviations and follow up on relevant information without always escalating the issue to technical support.
This has resulted in:
- Faster investigation and follow-up of deviations.
- Better visibility into collection-related deviations and data transfer issues.
- Reduced dependency on IT teams.
- Fewer internal escalations.
- Improved customer service efficiency.
Current Scope of Usage
The organization currently focuses on Nodinite’s monitoring and logging capabilities to ensure operational reliability and traceability across integrations.
While the Nodinite Repository has already been populated, it is not yet being actively utilized, leaving additional opportunities for future expansion and optimization.
Results: Continue Moving Forward with Nodinite
“The benefit of Nodinite is that we can make technical information understandable for the business. Customer Service does not need to see the whole engine room; they need to see the right deviations and be able to act.” Mats Kult, IT manager, Vakin
Although Nodinite was only implemented at the start of 2026, Vakin is already experiencing positive operational and business results, with an early return on investment (ROI).
Access to monitoring and integration logs is no longer limited to IT. Customer Service teams can independently investigate issues. Improving response times and reducing internal escalations. Today, at least 10 employees actively use the platform.
Improved Visibility & Control
Since implementation, Vakin has achieved:
- Faster identification and resolution of integration issues.
- Better visibility into collection-related deviations and data transfer issues.
- Improved service and invoice follow-up through better transparency and traceability
- Less reliance on manual email escalations.
- Better oversight across a complex multi-partner integration environment.
Future Plans
Vakin works with multiple municipalities and waste-hauling contractors, all using different route-planning systems. As usage matures, the organization is considering extending role-based access to external partners for improved collaboration and visibility.
Vakin also plans to further evaluate how the Nodinite Repository can support future operational and governance improvements as adoption continues to grow.
