Best Logging Solution for Integration Platform xT

Last Updated: November 27, 2024|

Our certified partners Swedwise made this happen back already back in 2022. We now feel is about time to share this valuable information, in particular for any organization using xT.

They have a customer in the logistics business using the integration platform xT. This customer also had a need to log transactions with the ability to search and find vital data quickly. Swedwise’s consultants consequently connected the dots and built a Nodinite adapter for xT.

Before we proceed, let’s start at the beginning by introducing all the players so we can paint a comprehensive picture of how the Nodinite xT adapter was created.

Who is Swedwise?

Swedwise is a Swedish IT company founded in 2010. They are headquartered in Karlstad, with offices in Stockholm and Uddevalla. Swedwise specializes in providing IT consulting services, licensing, development and implementation in system integrations, information and enterprise service management. The company has worked with Nodinite since 2021 and has been a certified partner for almost as long. Swedwise also works with the integration platform MuleSoft. They have Nodinite customers using MuleSoft as well.

What are the origins of xT?

xT was developed as a no-code to low-code integration platform. The first version was built in the late 1990’s by Xware, a Swedish company. Xware kept developing the platform, then called xTrade until they were acquired by WiseTech in 2019, an Australian logistics software provider. Today the next generation of xTrade is called xT and Swedwise provides licenses, upgrades, and training for the platform.

Who is the customer needing a Nodinite xT adapter?

The customer is a European company specializing in competitive logistics and sea freight solutions worldwide. At present the logistics firm operates in 15 countries. They began using xTrade many years ago and eventually upgraded to the latest platform version xT.

Why bother building an adapter between Nodinite and xT?

As mentioned above, Swedwise’s logistics customer has been using xT for a long time and is happy with the integration platform. They have no plans to switch to another platform. As with most larger organizations, the logistics company sends/receives large amounts of message flows daily. Swedwise do not have exact figure but a rough estimate is between 10,000 to 50,000 runs per day.

All these runs need to be logged. What happens to a shipment if customs declarations or key documents are lost?

Well… let’s not think about this right now.

This is the answer to the question why Nodinite was chosen. Nodinite’s logging functionality brings great value to organizations that understand its benefits.

“Customers like Nodinite for its search functionality“, is the straightforward answer from Henrik Blidh, Software Developer, and Anders Svensson, Team Leader at Swedwise.

For example, using order numbers or invoice numbers, users can drill down into message flows, using Nodinite, to find information that will answer questions such as, what happened, when did it happen and was the message delivered.

Nodinite is the best and most flexible tool to log transactions on xT

A prototype adapter for xT was first created in 2021 by a Swedwise employee familiar with Nodinite. Unfortunately, the first iteration of the Nodinite adapter did not work as well as hoped. Then in 2022 Henrik Blidh partially re-designed and re-built the adapter into the functioning version used today. Not long after, also in 2022, the Nodinite xT adapter began being used by the logistics customer.

Since then, the adapter has been working fine. Swedwise makes sure to maintain and update the adapter regularly.

How does the Nodinite xT adapter work?

The way the Nodinite logging adapter works is like this. When xT is tasked with a run, it processes this data and when it is done the results can be archived. The adapter listens to activity taking place and logs all data in Nodinite. This way it can be swiftly retrieved and reviewed later using Nodinite’s search functionality. Users can therefore find logged messages and get a granular view into what happened, why, when.

At present the adapter is solely focused on logging. It does not cover monitoring or the repository. Having a monitoring adapter for xT is an area that Swedwise are keen to explore in the future and is something that the logistics customer also to investigate. One of the cool aspects of the adapter is that the logistics customer that is actively using Nodinite, does not require any training to use the adapter. In fact, the customer doesn’t ever need to touch the adapter.
