CASE STUDY
Regional Authority Safeguards Critical Healthcare Integrations with Nodinite
Background
Responsible for Public Services
Sweden comprises of 21 regions that oversee essential public services. One of these is Region Halland, home to more than 340,000 residents. Region Halland is responsible for managing healthcare services such as hospitals, medical centres, and dental clinics and more.
The region’s IT department has over 250 employees, distributed across two offices in Halmstad and Varberg. Region Halland has had Nodinite for over six years.
Region Halland and Kazoku IT
Region Halland can also rely on Kazoku IT for assistance whenever needed. Kazoku is a certified Nodinite partner and Swedish IT consultancy specializing in optimizing Nodinite’s functionality, among other IT specialities. Their partnership began during a migration to BizTalk 2020 and has continued to this day.
Challenges
It's Critical to Track and Monitor Every Message
In the healthcare industry, where even the smallest issues can have life-or-death consequences, it’s critical to monitor and track every message carefully. This includes everything from medical referrals and x-rays to ECGs, lab test requests, prescriptions, and even financial transactions. Each requires the highest level of accuracy and attention to detail.
For instance, medical BizTalk message flows are integral to patient care, making their timely and accurate delivery non-negotiable. Without monitoring capabilities, the workload for IT staff would increase significantly. Manual checks, more staff to work on maintenance and a chance of longer downtime in file transfers if there something goes wrong Recognizing this challenge, Region Halland sought a robust solution to securely monitor, log, and manage these critical integrations.
Region Halland uses BizTalk 2020.
The Nodinite Solution
Why Nodinite was Selected
After evaluating different options, Region Halland selected Nodinite due to its comprehensive functionality and alignment with their requirements. The later addition of a robust repository for documentation further validified selecting Nodinite. It now plays a pivotal role in their integration landscape, providing advanced logging, monitoring, and role-based self-service features for BizTalk.
Nodinite’s repository is also used to document all integrations. It is the first that place maintenance personnel check to find out what to do if they, say, receive an error message.
Notable functionalities include:
- Non-Events Monitoring – Helping to identify when expected system activities do not occur, and unexpected events that do occur.
- Event Log Monitoring – Catch errors that are picked up by the event logs.
- File Folder Monitoring – BizTalk is expected to collect files from various sources. An alarm is sent out if these files are not collected from the right file folders.
- Search Fields – Powerful search functionality that is easy to set up and a great way to quickly find the right information.
- Auto-Healing – Automating responses to system errors to minimize downtime.
- Log Views & File Monitoring – Offering accessible, role-based tools for precise oversight and analysis of integration flows. If a message flow fails, then an alarm notification will immediately be sent to the right person(s) who can then take steps to resolve the issue.
Staff integration into Nodinite follows a tiered support model. A first line of support addresses initial queries using comprehensive documentation stored in Nodinite’s repository. More complex issues are escalated to experienced second-line support specialists, who manage system refinements, training for new users, and access configurations.
